Description
This position is within the District Attorney's Office as a Legal Secretary II.  Position comes with excellent benefits and PERs (Public Employee Retirement System).  Selected candidate will work with considerable independence and decision-making to provide a variety of secretarial functions of a complex nature.  

Essential functions of position. (Reason position exists is to perform these functions.) Duties that must be performed to accomplish the purpose of the position include but are not limited to:
  • Maintains confidentiality of records and information:
  • Answer multi-line phone and take messages as needed.
  • Politely handle reception of the public at the office and appropriately handle requests
  • Intake police reports into the District Attorney Case Management System. Log requests for further information and no action decisions. Update cases as they progress through the court system.
  • Correctly and timely prepare and file in the appropriate court, legal documents such as information, indictments uniform citations, subpoenas, probation violations, other violations, warrants, motions, orders etc.
  • Obtain criminal and driver records as needed on defendants and witnesses
  • Respond appropriately and in a timely manner to discovery requests.
  • Prepare written letters as directed.
  • Assist in the release of property and evidence to the appropriate person or agency.
  • Assist in preparation of satisfaction of money judgments.
  • Assist in the coordination of witnesses at trial or hearings. If needed, assist in making travel and lodging arrangements for witnesses.
  • Accept and properly receipt all money received by the office. Prepare vouchers as necessary
  • Obtain necessary reports from agencies, crime lab reports, intoxilyzer reports, certified copies of convictions etc.

Requires:
Two years of experience in a public or private law office OR satisfactory equivalent combination of education experience and/or training.  Must become LEDS certified within one year of employment in office.  Must become a notary public within three months of employment.
Must have thorough knowledge of standard office practices and a working knowledge of modern practices and methods.  Must have excellent general office and telephone skills.  Position requires ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure.  Must be able to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with other employees, other agencies, adn the public to represent the County in a positive manner in the community.  Must be able to accept supervision and adhere to County and department policies.



Position is located in Coquille, Oregon with regular office hours Monday through Friday.
